H&FLO Radio 10- "Holiday Hustling"

Holiday season is here. In the music industry world "holiday season" means 4th quarter music sales. This translates to labels making sure that they push their biggest artists to rake in the sales after nine months of madness. Traditionally there is a 'gap' of commercial music releases between December and February while the major labels collect on their major investments while independent artists push hard to break new ground. During this time in NYC there is also a lot of opportunity to be busy with DJ gigs. For H&FLO 10 I wanted to highlight new and emerging artists that inspire me to hustle here in NYC. As for the intro, Jonesy and I were flown out to Rome earlier in November to play for the US Marine Corps. Hustle in Italiano = "trambusto."

Life is all about progression: forward and onward. The Jellyfish is on a life- long quest as it drifts into the deep blue unknown. The Jellyfish must concentrate on finding the warm currents to help move itself onward. The Jellyfish floats alone. He is equipped only with poisonous tentacles to disarm prey that attempt to infiltrate his autonomy. In the deep blue abyss, The Jellyfish must be ready to embrace unforeseeable changes that may throw it deeply off course. The Jellyfish's strength during these times are a test of its evolutionary character. The Jellyfish conquers these forces by flowing with the changes of these tides, constantly focused on finding the warm currents. The Jellyfish travels far and wide. He inherently embraces a worldly heroic journey. It is long and hard in this animal kingdom, but the strong are rewarded with majestic self-governing freedom. The King floats alone.

*H&FLO 9- NYC's Vagabond King*

Hustle & FLO Radio 8- "Humid Hustle In Harlem"

WHAT! 95 degrees in NYC today, humidty 60%. People are like, "Well Texas is hot, Florida is hot, Brazil is hot" ... but NYC is HUMID. Invest your money in Gold Bond if you know what's good...Not only is it humid, but it's still a recession and people in this city running around like crazy trying to figure out where the money went. Musically, everything is out of wack. Matter of fact, I'm sitting inside of Sony Records right now, and the label people can't stop talking about the humidity and the downfall of the industry. Lazy DJ's especially better watch themselves, dudes are hungry and I need to eat...The only way to survive in the music game right now is to be patient, and connect with real music, real art, real truth. And the only way to survive in this city is to hustle... and hustle hard. Living in Harlem, it's the truth that you must be a hunter in the Urban Jungle, or be hunted. To all my hustlers and artists, it isn't easy right now but keep grinding, I shed sweat for all.

Hustle & FLO Podcast Radio 7- "Lost In LA LA Land"

Hustle & FLO Podcast Radio 7
"Lost In LA LA Land"
(Under The Influence of California)

I am a New Yorker. There is some sort of parallel universe that exists for people between the east coast and west coast, becuase LA was great to us during Jonesy & my DJ travels to the left coast. Great gigs, hype partying, unique music, ambitious single women, regal and legal ganja, and lots and lots of sun. Jonesy said that he could see himself 'living here,' but I am still true to NYC. But while we were out at Cali doing events for the Black Eyed Peas and remixing tracks for the LINKS, I couldn't help but let the Cali vibe infiltrate my system. For this Podcast I wanted to capture the vibes and sounds that I was listening to and focused on while in LA. I was literally about 10 blocks away from where Michael Jackson died (RIP) and felt instant chills and a shockwave of energy rush through the core of the city and into the Universe. And I am still amazed how some songs that are HUGE in LA can also be UNKNOWN in NYC (and visa-versa)- which is why travel is so interesting...Sitting in hours of traffic on the 405 breathing in smog, we were bumping the tracks selected on this mix. Hopefully you can taste the In & Out Burger and cool pacific breeze in this mix. Be Easy. Subscribe @ FLOsounds.com

Oi! It's Carnival Today!
Wow. A huge influx of dope dope new music came my way since I was in Aspen last week. Major props of course to homie Jonesy for holding down the blogs and the music also. Kid is a BEAST!

Anyhow, this mix has a slew of real slick NYC hip-hop, gems that are really fresh to the ear. Brand new Harlem fire- Jim Jones, Ryan Leslie, Drake ft. Santogold/Diplo, Focus/DJ Premier, and Jay-Z's Obama Tribute.

Don't sleep on the other eclectic joints as well, such as Radio Clit's African influenced track, Nursing Home's ear crunching remix, and an All-American Rejects song that I really dig (even though in the past I have slept on them).

Rio De Janeiro is Next Week.
